Eligibility for Funding
It is always the case that there are more worthy causes than available
funds. Since ZENON receives funding requests far in excess of what we
are able to support, we must decline even very worthy causes. There
are a number of limitations which dictate and restrict our support.
The following is a list of criteria that will be considered when evaluating
all donation requests:
- Consistency with ZENON's Mission
Statement and Values
- Innovation (including leadership and creativity)
- Community Focus
- Partnership (working effectively with others)
- Efficient Resource Management
- Usefulness and Value of the donation
- Appropriateness (will not include political/religious connotations,
etc)
Donations that will NOT be supported include:
- Donations to sponsor an individual's athletic challenge
- Service clubs and other organizations that channel funds to agencies
except for the United Way
- Organizations seeking funds but which are already receiving support
as an agency of the United Way
- Golf tournaments
- Trips, tours and associated costs
- Social functions, banquets and benefits
- Form letter requests
- Religious organizations and groups which are denominational or sectarian in purpose (churches, missionary groups, etc.)
- Organizations whose purposes or methods of operation pose a conflict
of interest for the company
- Loans or investments
- Organizations not registered as charitable institutions with Revenue
Canada
Application Review Process
To insure that personal preferences are not used to commit company
monies, all charity donations must be approved by the Donations Committee.
The methodology for approving donation applications is as follows:
- An application
for donations must be filled out. The application form
will be used to acquire information on the event/organization/charity/group
for consideration. Also contact name, address and telephone number,
and timeframe of the donation will be requested for ZENON to officially
respond.
- All requests that meet the eligibility for funding criteria and
are within ZENON's areas of interest will be forwarded on to the Donation
Coordinator for review.
- All requests for a given period of time will be discussed at the
next Donation Committee team meeting; The sub-team will either vote
to reject or accept the item; or bring it to the full Value Committee
which will provide the final approval to the donation
- Negative responses will be informed by formal written correspondence.
- Positive responses will be informed by phone call to inform the organization
of amount and when they can expect the donation. At this time a tax
receipt will be requested.
