Removal of Turbidity, Bacteria, Viruses and Cysts

ZeeWeed is an ultrafiltration membrane, which means that its membrane pore size is much smaller than Cryptosporidium, Giardia and other harmful parasites.

ZeeWeed produces high quality potable water and the technology is simple to implement and easy to operate. Whether it is installed in new tanks, or a retrofit of existing tanks, ZeeWeed can convert any treatment plant into a state-of-the-art membrane facility.

Typical Treated Water Results

  • Turbidity < 0.1 NTU
  • Bacteria > 4 log removal
  • Giardia Cysts > 4 log removal
  • Cryptosporidium Oocysts > 4 log removal
  • Virus Rejection - ZeeWeed 1000 > 4 log
  • Virus Rejection - ZeeWeed 500 > 2.5 log

Membranes are Becoming the Treatment Method of Choice for Large Scale Drinking Water Plants

Over the past 30 years, few municipalities in Canada have experienced the kind of rapid population and economic growth that the Region of Peel has. With the population increasing from about 330,000 to over one million residents, the municipality places a high priority on ensuring that new infrastructure expenditures are long-term investments.

The Region of Peel began discussions in 2002 to expand its Lakeview Water Treatment Plant (LWTP). Both Regional Council and senior management established key criteria for current and future expansions at the site. It was imperative that the expansion remain within the existing footprint of the plant, produce the highest quality drinking water possible at a reasonable cost, and allow for sufficient capacity to service future needs and opportunities.
